Review

The first two thirds of this book are worth your time. Pressfield names the force that stops you from doing your work, calls it Resistance, and gives it enough definition that you recognize it on sight: internal, self-generated, and relentless. The section on turning pro is the sharpest part of the book. Show up every day, do the work whether or not you feel like it, and stop treating yourself like a talented amateur waiting for better conditions. The final third is where I checked out. Pressfield moves into muses, angels, and invocations as creative aids, and that framing does nothing for me. I closed the book with the core concept intact but a bit put off by where it landed.
