Snark Runner
The first Snark Runner prototype: a yellow ball, grey boxes for obstacles, and a bare dune horizon 01

How it started

The first prototype. A yellow ball, grey boxes, and a sun. The dunes and the light came later.

Title screen: Snark over a dusk desert horizon, with the last run's distance below the title 02 · How it ended

Snark runs, you jump.

Boulders and desert plants come out of the haze, and the run ends the moment you clip one. The title screen remembers how far you got last time, in case you had forgotten.

The same course for everyone.

Everyone gets the same course on the same day, so a score is worth comparing. The run starts and ends on the same horizon.

What is in it
Daily courseThe same run for everyone

The obstacle layout comes from a seed built out of the UTC date, so the course is identical for every player that day and changes at midnight. No server decides it, and no server needs to.

RenderingCinematic, not flat

A full postprocessing chain: bloom, god rays through the low sun, and tone mapping over PBR terrain with glTF props. It is a hobby game that takes its own dusk seriously.

AudioNothing on disk

Every sound is synthesized in the Web Audio API at runtime. A jump chirp, a death whomp, a dodge blip, and a low ambient bed for the desert. The game ships no audio files at all.

PerformanceAdapts to the device

It reads device memory, core count, maximum texture size and whether it is on a phone, then picks a quality tier to match. Anything starved drops to the cheapest tier rather than stuttering.

Status

Playable and polished, and currently parked. It was built as a hobby project alongside the phone games, then set aside to finish work that pays. It is not hosted anywhere yet.
